Lately, I have been really at my worst in managing time. Well, to begin with I was never great at it. If you were to refer back to my upbringing, my mom’s way of getting around the day is a mental checklist, which she keeps checking throughout the day and ends the day with a certain euphoria of having accomplished it all. She even includes 20 mins of reading and a 20 min power nap to her day till today. We were never ignored, never fed store bought food not even snacks and always had mom at our beck and call. She did it all.

For the past 6 months when she was living with us, right from the moment she would open her eyes in the morning she would be chasing her mental checklist all day long. And this would piss me off to no ends. I just feel that such a thing limits and inhibits creativity and I am unable to focus on anything without thinking about the next task on the list. However, after she is gone I am kind of all over the place.

It is beyond a doubt that “we” as a family got a lot more done before. It could be hot and delicious meals right of the stove for dinner or neatly arranged washed, pressed and stacked laundry or simple things like the spice closet not having empty bottles lying around. I am falling behind little things and somewhere mom’s words are running in a loop in my head. She would constantly bleat that I am trying to do too much in a day and that too without a plan. She would tell me to have a plan for the day the night before and STAY OFF FACEBOOK. Yes, that was her biggest bone of contention. And I agree, Facebook can chew off productive hours from your day without adding any real value. A little bit here and there is fine but sometimes it could be a never-ending loop of totally not required socialization.

I need to be mindful of my diet for the body as well as the mind, these days, at least in order to keep myself sane and not end the day feeling like a loser. That’s exactly what’s happening to me these days. At this stage of my life, managing my time is clearly the key to my happiness. And I am totally realizing that mom was actually right about a lot of things even though I would not like to aggressively chase around a “to-do” throughout the day. However, being conscious of how much you need to get done in a day is a good thing.

That said, the recipe I am blogging today is Dahi and Til ke Kebabs (Hung Yogurt and Sesame Kebabs). It is actually made out of non-fat Greek yogurt and is a very healthy appetizer. I am trying and making little changes in staying away from things that distract you from your goal and these kebabs totally meet the specs. Easy, healthy and delicious! What else would I want?

Description

Try this Dahi Aur Til Ke Kebab Recipe at home. A healthy appetizer that is made from nonfat Greek yogurt and sesame seeds.

Ingredients

  • Greek Yogurt – 1/3 cup ( I used non-fat)
  • Roasted Besan/Roasted Chickpea Flour – 1 ¼ cup
  • Salt – To taste
  • Sugar – To taste
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Kasoori Methi – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic Powder – ½ tsp
  • Red Chili Powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander Powder – ½ tsp
  • Cumin Powder – ½ tsp
  • Dried Pomegranate Powder – 1/2tsp
  • Cilantr0 – ¼ cup, chopped finely
  • Sesame Seeds – ¼ cup
  • Bread Crumbs – 1 tbsp ( optional)
  • Oil spray – 2 spritzes

Instructions

  1. Keep the yogurt in a mesh strainer for at least an hour. This helps the water to be released leaving the milk solids.
  2. Dry roast the besan or the chickpea flour.
  3. Add all the spices, ghee, salt, sugar, cilantro, half the sesame seeds and make a semi-soft dough. If the dough looks a little too soft, add the breadcrumbs and mix in.
  4. Divide the dough into 5-6 portions.
  5. Now oil your hands and take one portion of the dough and give it a cylindrical shape.
  6. Insert skewers in them and shape them like seekh kebabs. Roll them on the remaining sesame seeds.
  7. Heat a griddle and use couple of spritzes of the oil spray.
  8. Place the kebabs on the griddle and cook them for 2-3 mins on each side on medium flame.
  9. Serve with your favorite condiments and enjoy right away.
