Sunshine Broth Shots Recipe! I need all the sunshine possible, literally and figuratively right now. It has been unusually cold lately. And G is down with flu and I can see it coming for me too. So yes, sunshine is all that I seek now. I say this also because my spirits have been unusually low the past few days for various reasons. And if you know the real me, you will know that a part of me constantly fights such feelings and leaves no stones unturned to reach out to light and bring it home.

The light, in this case, can be talking to a good friend, getting a pedicure, buying that dress you had been eyeing forever (yass) or for that matter do anything that forces the inner voice in you to tell you, “Well! Things are not bad either and tomorrow is a new day”. And trust me a little self-love is all that is needed to get a fresh perspective on life’s problems and get back with renewed vigor.

And this sunshine broth is nothing but self-love. For me, taking the time to mindfully make something for myself is self-love. We all eat our meals but how many of us actually fuel the body let alone the mind. The process of fueling the body and mind starts from picking the ingredients you are going to cook with. There’s nothing more satisfying than creating a dish from scratch taking into consideration the mechanics of the ingredients, flavors, and techniques. And for me personally, cooking is a great escape from things that tend to take away from me my inner peace.

This broth has very few ingredients and is an easy, no-fuss recipe. Some of you may even think that it may not be worth documenting. But my purpose here is to promote the well being around this dish more than the recipe. My purpose is to force you to slow down and get into the kitchen and make something just to calm the torment inside. My purpose is to have you sit down and then take that first sip from the spoon and tell yourself that you deserve the world and more. I feel, men or women, it does not matter but in the mad race of life, we are slowly losing the ability to appreciate the pure and unadulterated joie de vivre we are all blessed with.

Life does not give second chances often, so be selfish, love yourself and most importantly give yourself time. That’s the most precious gift you can give to anyone and that includes you first n foremost.

The broth is simple, tomatoes, a few celery sticks, ginger, mint, salt and black pepper. Yes, that is it. I make a huge pot of this and sip on it throughout the day. I am trying to wean myself off a compulsive urge to snack on savory things at every given opportunity. Be it pretzels, peanuts or popcorn, I love stuffing myself with a fistful of them every now and then (well!! more than that). So I needed something that could help me counter that addiction. And this is what which is helping me stay on track. I eat my meals and then when the mind reminds me of the momentary heaven that snacking brings, I tell myself that it is time for a little shot of the sunshine broth. The strategy is working and I feel no less than a hero when I go to bed at the end of the day, having stayed on track.
